What Are Essential Oils?

Now that I am blending my own essential oil roll-ons, I often receive the response, “I need to do some research,” when trying to give free products away! I have received this answer multiple times from friends and even family! Essential oils go way back to our ancestors who were the first creators of perfumes, deodorants and all natural beauty products! Even think back to Ancient Egyptian culture with Queen Cleopatra’s beauty, which was all accredited to the use of plants, never chemicals! So here I am with some research with sources of course!

Essential oils are natural compounds found from plants which contain aromatic chemicals that create a scent. The scent we smell from essential oils are pure and contain no toxic chemicals like our everyday perfumes and products. When essential oils are combined with a carrier oil such as sunflower oil, coconut oil, almond oil or other oils, we can use them for beneficial reasons. Essential oils are known to cause positive mood changes when applied to the skin or even just inhaled!. Based on this Healthline article about essential oils, “Inhaling the aromas from essential oils can stimulate areas of your limbic system, which is a part of your brain that plays a role in emotions, behaviors, sense of smell, and long-term memory.” There are no negative side effects to essential oils, just some scents you may enjoy over others!. I personally have been using essential oils since before my son was born in 2019, and have used them on all of my three kids and partner, with no negative side effects. The key things to remember when using  essential oils are, they must be diluted in a carrier oil before use  and make sure you purchase them from a reputable source! Here is a list of some essential oils and their uses from the Healthline article:

  • Peppermint: used to boost energy and aid digestion
  • Lavender: used to relieve stress
  • Sandalwood: used to calm nerves and help with focus
  • Bergamot: used to reduce stress and improve skin conditions like eczema
  • Rose: used to improve mood and reduce anxiety
  • Chamomile: used to improve mood and relaxation
  • Ylang-Ylang: used to treat headaches, nausea, and skin conditions
  • Tea Tree: used to fight infections and boost immunity
  • Jasmine: used to help with depression, childbirth, and libido
  • Lemon: used to aid digestion, mood, headaches, and more

I use all of the essential oils listed above and more, to create blends that people can enjoy without toxic chemicals that enter our bloodstream! Here is the link if you would like to purchase!
